Core Competency Spotlight: Advocacy and Analytics

KnovaSolutions: Helping Employers Identify and Engage High-Risk Employees

Disease and condition management programs alone typically fail because they are built around diseases, not people. We go beyond the health-related challenges that amplify the stresses of day-to-day life by providing clinical decision support.

Our KnovaSolutions® clinical services take a holistic approach. The services equip and empower people to navigate the health care system, improve their health, and make more-informed decisions. Each participant works directly with a registered nurse who coordinates with a licensed pharmacist and medical librarian to provide information, action plans, and support—including education and coaching that focuses on empowering participants and families to regain control over their lives, health, and health care. This improves their quality of life while working to lower overall costs.

Our research has shown that 5 percent of an employer’s population consumes 50 percent or more of all health benefit costs. Improving outcomes for that high-cost, at-risk population can make a major impact in their lives while dramatically reducing human capital expenses. Clients see an average ROI of 2:1 to 5:1, and 99 percent of participants say they would recommend the program to others.

Products and Service Innovations

Workpartners’ integrated approach connects programs and clinical solutions at the right time—when employees need it most.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 200 million workdays are lost each year as a result of employees experiencing depression.1 This costs businesses billions of dollars and makes it vital for companies to invest in supporting employees’ mental health.

Our research has shown that rates of depression doubled among employees taking FMLA to care for a loved one. In light of this, we launched an initiative to educate employees requesting a leave of absence to care for a loved one about employee assistance program (EAP) services that may help them during their leave. Because we proactively informed employees before they took leave, participation in the EAP programs increased from 8.7 percent to 31.4 percent.

Our LifeSolutions EAP offers extensive resources that can help improve employees’ professional and personal lives, increase their productivity, and help to reduce benefit costs. These resources include:

  • Counseling—phone, video, and in-person
  • Digital solution app—RxWell®
  • Online tools, trainings, and workshops
  • Support for members and supervisors
  • Services for personal concerns, such as financial wellness, caregiving support, and legal services
  • Support during organizational times of crisis

Risk Control Services and Injury Prevention

Workpartners has been providing workers’ compensation third-party administration services to public and private clients of all sizes since 1997. Our approach allows us to address data conversion, case management, physician peer review, strong analytical safety support, safety committee support, medical cost containment, OSHA reporting, and other complementary services for work-related claims.

The best way to effectively manage workers’ compensation costs is to prevent injuries. The National Council on Compensation Insurance Inc. reports that medical services represent 60 percent of third-party workers’ compensation claim costs.2 By analyzing injury trends and causes, we can identify key cost drivers and provide strategic data to develop or enhance a safety and loss prevention program.

We have developed industry-leading data analytics to support our clients’ cost-containment strategies and evaluate overall and specific program performance. We use industry best-practice security technologies and the power of the world’s leading independent risk management information system and claims management solution to process, manage, and analyze claims and track incidents.

By reviewing losses, performing gap analyses, delivering training to leadership and employees, and consulting on safety program elements from compliance to best practices, our Risk Control Services team has collaborated with insureds and their brokers in a number of industries with proven results. From Our Leadership

Opportunity. Innovation. Excellence.

Last year, we made many gains—with no signs of slowing down. We're on track to continue to drive innovation for you and your clients, delivering personalized tools and solutions. We’re excited about all the ways we’ll get there, and we hope you are too. Stay up to date on our path to progress across our core competencies: analytics, advocacy, absence, and benefits administration. Welcome to the journey!

Innovating in new areas

Every business faces unique challenges. That means every one of your clients—and every one of their employees—deserves personalized service.

All of our programs that address time away from work—including absence, short-term disability administration, ADA/ADAAA, and workers’ compensation—are delivered through top-of-the-line programs. We are uniquely able to provide integrated reporting across all employee absence, disability, and workers' compensation programs. This integration and data technology allow us to calculate return-on-investment and return-on-value statements.

Positioned to succeed

We have proudly made Pittsburgh our headquarters, but we strive to work with brokers and consultants across the nation. We maintain additional operations throughout the United States, including our two Mountain West locations of Cheyenne, WY, and Loveland, CO.

We firmly believe that widespread success requires collaboration from all levels of an organization—starting with leaders. At Workpartners, we have strong leaders who are dedicated to innovation. This is a boon for both our company and all of our partners. Our leaders support and empower us in continuing to expand across the country.
